LEVEL 1 · MODELING

DSharp Modeling

Description

A course focused entirely on modeling. We work through the modeler with hands-on exercises and cover what modeling is, how to model, and why it matters. Afterwards you'll be able to create models yourself and understand what makes a conceptual model a good one. Four hours, including a couple of breaks.

LEVEL 2 · PROFESSIONAL

DSharp Professional

Description

Learn how to build and maintain a low-code data warehouse with DSharp. You'll cover the modeling, mapping, and parametrization needed to automatically convert a conceptual model into Data Vault 2.0 tables and the load procedures that populate them. Seven hours including lunch and breaks; we meet in an online classroom and everybody has a personal training environment in Azure Lab Services.

Technical architects, developers, and anyone interested in what it takes to build automated, modern low-code data warehouse solutions.

  • Taught in English and Finnish; course materials are in English
  • The virtual classroom allows six participants

  • The fee includes three weeks of access to the training environment — modeling, automation, and database tools
  • Environments can also be rented afterwards for self-service training, evaluation, and PoCs

Certificate

Complete the 10 tutorials and you receive the DSharp Professional Certificate of Completion and the DSharp Professional badge. Attendees certified on version 4.2 or earlier get an updated certificate; if you've already worked with 5.0 or later in customer projects, the tutorials are optional.

LEVEL 3 · EXPERT

DSharp Expert

Description

Expand and sharpen your existing skills in building and maintaining low-code data warehouses with DSharp. Seven hours including lunch and breaks; we meet in an online classroom and everybody has a personal training environment in Azure Lab Services.

Data architects and developers who have completed the Professional course, or who have been working with DSharp in customer projects, evaluations, or PoCs.

  • Extending the introductory content with more use cases

If feasible, complete all 10 tutorials from the DSharp Professional course — it's the best possible starting point.

UPGRADE

DSharp Upgrade

Description

The Analysis Engine reads your model, reports errors and warnings, and suggests how to configure it. Some errors are critical, and conversion won't continue for those classes until they're sorted out — so upgrading may require a round of model maintenance to get conversion running again. Once that one-time chore is done, the Analysis Engine makes your work easier and your models better than before.

Upgrading is a good opportunity to go over the model and fix inconsistencies. Some fixes change the underlying implementation — changing a key type from non-business key to business key creates a hub that wasn't there before — and you handle those case by case. You can also skip breaking changes and only set parameters so the issue is resolved, which produces the same end result as before with minimal technical work and risk, at the cost of model quality.

Developers facing an upgrade to 5.0 with an existing install base.

Details

Existing installations are already guaranteed to pass most critical tests — there's only a small number of new analysis cases deemed critical. We walk through the most common ones expected in an already-deployed model and the alternatives for fixing them. The same critical error usually has the same fix everywhere, and the number of distinct error types in a project is rarely large.
