Switch UI Mode
Visual Paradigm has two UI modes, Sleek and Classic. The diagramming behaves the same in both modes, but the menu structures and generic look-and-feel are different. You can use any mode you wish, but the screenshots and instructions in this documentation are written for Classic mode.
After installation, the VP UI mode defaults to Sleek. To change it to Classic:
- select the Window tab
- click Application Options
- change the UI selection from Sleek to Classic
- click OK and restart Visual Paradigm

Hide Everything But The Model Explorer And Property Pane
The Visual Paradigm UI makes use of dockable toolbox windows, Panes, showing different aspects of the model contents. For the tutorials, you will only need the Model Explorer and the Property panes. At initial startup, most panes available in VP are open, and you can start by closing the ones you don’t need by clicking on the Close (x) button of the pane.
For a smooth workflow, you should keep the Model Explorer docked top the left edge of the VP window, and the Property pane docked to the right edge. Initially, all panes are docked to the left. You can move a pane by “grabbing” it by pressing and holding the left mouse key on the pane’s header, and then dragging the pane towards the right edge of the window. When almost at the edge, VP will draw a blue rectangle to represent the location where the pane will be when docked. At this point, release the mouse button, and the pane will dock at the indicated position.
Having done this, the UI should look like this:
Panes can be shown and hidden using the View -> Panes menu item, so if you close a pane you need, you can get it back here:
