Various data projects are familiar to CGI’s data architect, Riika Kaitera. Over a year of experience with DSharp Studio has shown that the workload of a data warehouse developer can be eased with seamless automation. This is the story of how a technical data architect learned to trust DSharp’s data platform tool.
In project work, the challenges of managing customer data come and go, but certain things are constant: everyone wants to make their own work easier and faster. As an IT consultancy, CGI is an experienced problem solver when it comes to streamlining operations and simplifying processes. Data architect Riika Kaitera is familiar with the risk areas of data projects:
“Over the past year, Kaitera has tested DSharp’s data platform development tool, DSharp Studio, in two different projects. In the early childhood education data project, important data from municipalities was consolidated onto a shared data platform, and in the Metsähallitus (Finnish Forest Administration) project, data sharing was facilitated through conceptual modeling.” Kaitera’s experience is that DSharp Studio solves many of the customer’s data management challenges:
“The Metsähallitus project created a data platform, to which additional source systems are continuously being added. The efficiency of DSharp Studio is evident in practice, as over a thousand concepts have been modeled into the project’s conceptual model in a short period of time.”
Kaitera emphasizes that customer involvement in data projects is crucial for a successful outcome. DSharp Studio lowers the threshold for handling and exploring data from different sources. With automation taking care of code generation, developers can spend more time on other important tasks:
Data Warehouse Automation Speeds Up Processes
In the early childhood education data project, DSharp Studio was used to combine early childhood education data from several different source systems into a single repository. The data warehouse, created in Azure environment, helps better allocate resources and supports the development of early childhood education activities at a regional level, as decisions are based on real-time data.
In the early childhood education data warehouse project, all data was modeled for each municipality using a single, unified conceptual model. Since early childhood education data is generally very similar across municipalities and the processes are alike, creating the conceptual model was straightforward.
The database created through modeling serves multiple municipalities, and the centralized database also makes training and deployment of the software easy:
Kaitera initially doubted whether it was possible to rely solely on automation when creating the data warehouse. As an experienced data vault modeler, she thought that the code generated by the software should be double-checked manually just to be safe:
Based on her own experience, who would Kaitera recommend DSharp Studio to?
