In April we rolled out version 2.4 of the D♯ Toolbox to partners, customer projects, trials and PoCs. Based on feedback from D# trainings and workshops within the D♯ Business Data Platform (BDP) developer community, we are now happy to announce a further improved version – v.2.4.1.

D♯ v.2.4 – a continuation of v.2.2 and v.2.3.

As the core functionality has been there since version 2.0, the functional highlights of D♯ 2.2 to 2.4 are mostly about streamlining many of the small development-phase tasks the BDP professional performs several times a day, thus further increasing productivity. This includes analysis queries, deployment functionality and usability features. On the core functionality side of things, as important groundwork for the future, the base for Business Vault automation has also been laid. Also, tutorials and other learning material have been expanded for use both in training sessions and for self-learning.

Many improvements have also been made to the commercial packaging of the software in order to enable support for a growing amount of BDP professionals among our customers and partners. The D♯ community is starting to take form as the learning process is improving in parallel:

  • Best recruits with the right background ->
  • D# demonstrations and D# Introduction course ->
  • Self-learning tutorials and D# Advanced course ->
  • PoCs, trials or technology evaluations ->
  • D# certifications.

We are inviting you to join us in creating new school data careers.

v.2.4 and v.2.4.1

Model and mapping analysis catch more modeling and mapping issues than before, leading to faster model-to-SQL -development cycles. The automatically generated HTML-documentation has been extended with Data Lineage diagrams for each automated entity. Changes in how the model based views are generated have greatly improved the query speeds. License and version management is clearer than ever and openness has increased further.

A summary of new features launched can be found here.

Enjoy world class automation with D#

When Steve Jobs launched “The Computer For The Rest of Us” a long time ago, his thought was to make computers usable and understandable for people with no technical background. In the D# team we feel that the market for data platforms, reporting, analytics, etc. is in still in “the same stage” where computers were in the 1980s. Many customers are (in 2021) really confused by the rapidly changing and ultra-technological language used by technology players and data consultants in our field. The message and recommendations are highly conflicting and different “schools” are not necessarily even compatible with each other. Customers are too often misled by big and small vendors to focus on technological matters and suboptimized point solutions instead of understanding the big picture and creating pragmatically working and understandable business data solutions that are flexible and sustainable in a rapidly changing world, where smart and wise decisions are needed quicky – all the time, every day.

This short PDF presentation (in English and Finnish) communicates the key issues in achieving a “Business Data Platform for the rest of us“. Terms like Conceptual Modeling, Data Vault, Automation and DSharp (D#) are described in a simple way. It all starts from simplifying the language. Our mission is to get business data people to discuss and work together with IT Data people in order to achieve great value for decision makers.

Data Warehouse Automation

During 2018-2020 LUT University went through major changes and mergers. The need for collecting and unifying reliable data to feed reporting, analytics and forecasting became acute. LUT, Cerion and DSharp co-operated in specifying and implementing a modern, scalable and flexible data platform to improve support for decision making in the new organization. In parallel LUT has also succeeded in creating a common data governance model for further development of the BI-solution.

During the first phase LUT has trained its own personnel to use the D# methodology and tools, growing into new age data professionals, and is now able to independently maintain and further develop the solution. Read more about the success story (in finnish) here.

The roles of DSharp experts in the first phase were:

  • Training and coaching customer and partner experts
  • Lead consultant for conceptual modeling and solution design
  • Methodology and tool box consulting and developer support
