Productivity Leap improved Metsähallitus’ data management with DSharp Studio

Metsähallitus consolidated data scattered across different sources using DSharp’s data platform development tool. In a collaborative project, experts from Metsähallitus worked with specialists from Solita, Productivity Leap, and DSharp to implement a cloud-based data platform that aids in better management and reporting of data.

Productivity Leap is an IT consulting company known for its agile and business-supporting solutions. Kari Natunen, the CEO of Productivity Leap, knew that DSharp’s product DSharp Studio would be suitable for Metsähallitus’ project due to the tool’s flexibility and ease of use:

“In this project, we had excellent cooperation with various partners and experts from Metsähallitus. We needed an automated tool based on the customer’s business, with strong integration features. DSharp’s tool worked perfectly for this need.”

Metsähallitus’ data challenges were related to data located in several different sources, where the same concepts were defined in different ways. This introduced inaccuracies in the data and made reporting difficult. In line with its new data strategy, Metsähallitus wanted to make better use of the data. The goal is for the organization to operate in a more data-driven manner in the future.

“Representatives from the client were involved in the definition process from the start, and the implementation met the business needs. The project required technical expertise at many levels, and close collaboration led to the desired results. The platform created now can easily be expanded in the future with new source systems.”

The implementation enables independent reporting

In the project, Metsähallitus brought together data stored in several different source systems using DSharp’s conceptual modeling. Concepts were identified, named consistently, and gathered from various systems into a single data warehouse, ensuring that the data is now real-time, reliable, and comparable.

Productivity Leap’s project manager, Pertti Markkanen, describes the implementation as a smooth problem-solving process that supports the client’s data-driven management goals:

“Now, Metsähallitus has access to standardized data that is no longer system-specific but speaks the same language. The implementation enables smoother data management across the entire organization and improves the understandability of the data.”

Metsähallitus uses the Data Vault 2.0 architecture as the foundation for its new data warehouse. Combined with DSharp Studio’s conceptual modeling, this accelerates and simplifies reporting as well as sharing information beyond the organization. In smaller projects, Metsähallitus’ experts plan to carry out reporting independently, without external consultants:

“The most important thing is that the organization’s own staff understands and knows how to use the new data warehouse. It enhances operations and inspires experts to utilize data in new ways. Data management is no longer a theoretical exercise but moves into practice. This is to everyone’s benefit”, Markkanen concludes.
