Transforming Data Management: Highlights from the Microsoft Data Platform User Group Meeting in Helsinki
Last week, we had the privilege of presenting at the Microsoft Data Platform User Group meeting in Helsinki. We showcased our powerful data platform automation tool, DSharp Studio, to an engaged audience of data professionals and industry leaders. This event provided the perfect stage for us to demonstrate how DSharp Studio is transforming data management by automating data warehouse development and boosting efficiency for organizations of all sizes.
At its core, DSharp Studio bridges the gap between business and IT by enabling clear communication through high-level conceptual modeling. This allows business teams to articulate requirements in familiar business terms, while developers can automatically generate high-quality code for the data platform—without needing to write a single line of code manually. DSharp Studio’s no-code, automated solution not only accelerates development but ensures consistency and scalability. Additionally, the tool offers powerful features to run and analyze data flows directly from the platform, providing teams with deeper insights and a seamless development process from start to finish.
But we weren’t the only ones showcasing the power of DSharp Studio—our long-time partner, Metsähallitus, took the stage to share how they’ve been leveraging the tool to manage Finland’s extensive state-owned lands and water resources. Their case perfectly illustrates the real-world impact of DSharp Studio.
Metsähallitus: Harnessing the Power of DSharp Studio for Sustainable Land Management
Metsähallitus, responsible for managing millions of hectares of land and water, needed a data platform that could consolidate data from various sources and provide real-time insights for decision-making. Using DSharp Studio, Metsähallitus has developed a scalable, cloud-based data platform that integrates multiple datasets—ranging from forestry to wildlife conservation—into a unified system.
“DSharp Studio has been a game-changer for us. It has allowed us to streamline our data management processes, reduce manual coding, and most importantly, bring our data together in a way that supports our sustainability goals,” said Annina Malin, Data Architect at Metsähallitus.
Thanks to DSharp Studio, Metsähallitus has been able to overcome significant data challenges, including:
- Combining Data from Multiple Sources: The concept of Maankäyttökohde (land use area) exists in several systems, each storing slightly different information. Using DSharp Studio, Metsähallitus was able to consolidate this data into one coherent model, ensuring that all relevant data—whether it relates to real estate, conservation, or forestry—is unified.
- Deriving Specialized Attributes: From the parent class Maankäyttökohde, Metsähallitus can now derive specific attributes such as Virkistysalue (recreational area), which has additional properties like visitor facilities or accessibility. This ensures that data remains organized and relevant while reducing the need for duplicate models.
- Protecting Sensitive Data: Metsähallitus also handles highly sensitive information, such as the locations of endangered species. With DSharp Studio’s modeling features, they can approximate species locations, generalizing the data for public use without compromising confidentiality. By defining the right model structures, Metsähallitus can publish approximate locations, such as grid references, while keeping the exact coordinates secure.
See Us in Hannover and Rovaniemi This September
Following our success at the Helsinki event, we’re excited to continue sharing how DSharp Studio can transform data management across industries. You can catch us later this month at two major events:
- Data Dreamland in Hannover, where we’ll be presenting at the end of September
- Tietojohtamisen Verkostopäivät in Rovaniemi, where we’ll be sharing insights and meeting with data professionals from across Finland
We invite you to join us at either (or both!) of these events to learn more about how DSharp Studio can help your organization streamline data processes, reduce costs, and drive innovation.
We look forward to seeing you there!
