During spring and autumn 2021 we did a market study regarding emerging trends and focus areas in Business Data Platforms together with University of Turku.

Key phenomena studied were:

  • Business Data Platforms
  • Low Code in Highly Scaleable Data Platform solutions
  • Business Driven Conceptual Modeling and rapid model-to-implementation methodologies
  • Automated Data Warehouses
  • Data Vault 2.0
  • Data Mesh
  • DevOps and DataOps
  • Better and quicker decisions among leading decision makers

The recurring theme during the whole study was the importance of collaboration between business people, decision makers and IT professionals. One of the most challenging things in the whole data consumption market is how to efficiently reach a common understanding of the needs.

The two main take-aways from this study are:

  • There is a rapidly growing need for methodologies, skills and tools to reap the benefits of the explosively growing data volumes and diversity
  • DSharp has the business driven methodology, tools and the training program to meet that challenge

The study further confirmed our vision. We are now more confident than ever, that our positioning is in the core of this growing market. Right on target.

The cooperation was very pleasant! Thank you, Team UTU!

Community

We are happy to announce that the D♯ Developer Community site has been opened to BDP developers. All current licensed D♯ professionals have been given access, as will all future ones. So, without further ado, welcome everybody, and let’s get going!

Also take a look at our Training Program presented in our June story.

Become our new Software Developer

More and more customers are committing to D♯. The number of license subscriptions and data professionals keeps growing. We are extremely happy that DSharp Oy is already breaking even, which is a testament to a highly competitive product and training program.

D♯ SmartEngine 2.5 has been rolled out to partners and customers. The release is mostly a technical upgrade, pushing three years worth of updates to the UI library, but also usability and analysis functionality have been improved.

The Training Program keeps on rockin’. Last week we had another sold-out Online Intro course, and the next one will take place in late September. We will also give the first Online Advanced course starting next week for those who have previously attended the Intro course, so that’s a good opportunity to have a pragmatic look at real-world situations and how to handle them using the D♯ Toolbox. Growing Demand

After the digitalization leap caused by Corona many analysts are forecasting 10-15% growth for the data market in the next 5 years. Hence, the demand for Data Vault 2.0 and D♯-based Data Platforms is growing rapidly. In parallel the need for business-driven conceptual data modeling is on the rise as our customers and partners invest in data leadership, data governance, smarter data architectures, etc.

Summer Is Coming…

Surf’s Up,

In April we rolled out version 2.4 of the D♯ Toolbox to partners, customer projects, trials and PoCs. Based on feedback from D# trainings and workshops within the D♯ Business Data Platform (BDP) developer community, we are now happy to announce a further improved version – v.2.4.1.

D♯ v.2.4 – a continuation of v.2.2 and v.2.3.

As the core functionality has been there since version 2.0, the functional highlights of D♯ 2.2 to 2.4 are mostly about streamlining many of the small development-phase tasks the BDP professional performs several times a day, thus further increasing productivity. This includes analysis queries, deployment functionality and usability features. On the core functionality side of things, as important groundwork for the future, the base for Business Vault automation has also been laid. Also, tutorials and other learning material have been expanded for use both in training sessions and for self-learning.

Many improvements have also been made to the commercial packaging of the software in order to enable support for a growing amount of BDP professionals among our customers and partners. The D♯ community is starting to take form as the learning process is improving in parallel:

  • Best recruits with the right background ->
  • D# demonstrations and D# Introduction course ->
  • Self-learning tutorials and D# Advanced course ->
  • PoCs, trials or technology evaluations ->
  • D# certifications.

We are inviting you to join us in creating new school data careers.

v.2.4 and v.2.4.1

Model and mapping analysis catch more modeling and mapping issues than before, leading to faster model-to-SQL -development cycles. The automatically generated HTML-documentation has been extended with Data Lineage diagrams for each automated entity. Changes in how the model based views are generated have greatly improved the query speeds. License and version management is clearer than ever and openness has increased further.

A summary of new features launched can be found here.
